Final score, Switzerland vs. Brazil:Casemiro's late goal advances the South Americans to the World Cup round of 16

Brazil advanced into the World Cup 2022 quarterfinals thanks to a goal by Casemiro late in the game. Throughout the second round of Group G games, Switzerland's stubborn resistance finally gave way.
Vinicius Junior had the best opportunity of the first half when he drifted into space at the far post but failed to properly connect with Raphinha's cross, forcing Yann Sommer to save. Brazil struggled to break through a disciplined Switzerland defense without Neymar due to injury.
Despite having glimpses of opportunities, Switzerland more than held its own and never really created a gilt-edged opportunity. Neither team was able to easily break open the opposing backline. Brazil brought on Rodrygo at the break, and he was linking up quickly with Vinicius, a Real Madrid teammate. Vinicius sent in a beautiful cross with the outside of his right foot that Richarlison almost turned in.
When Rodrygo played Vinicius in down the left, he skipped Nico Elvedi's challenge and rolled the ball past Sommer, giving Brazil, who were turning up the heat, the impression that they had finally won the game just past the hour mark. However, the goal was chalked off after a lengthy VAR check determined that Richarlison was offside earlier in the same phase of play.
