Hosted by India, the 2023 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup is the 13th edition of over 50 World Cups. India will host the biannual tournament for the fourth time in its history, with the tournament set to take place in the 2023 year.

Format

Ten teams battle it out for the coveted trophy. The tournament will follow a format similar to his 2019 edition in England and Wales, with a round-robin phase followed by knockouts.

All 10 teams will face each other once in a round robin round-robin. A win awards 2 points to the winning side in each game, while no score means the teams share 1 point.

The top four teams advance to the semi-finals at the end of the round-robin stage. Two consecutive semi-final winners face off in the final to determine the champion.

Qualification

The 2020-23 ICC Cricket World Cup Super League will be the main qualification route for the tournament. The top seven teams from the CWCSL table and automatic host India will enter the tournament directly. The remaining 5 teams from the CWCSL table, the top 3 teams from the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2, and the top 2 teams from the 2023 World Cup Qualifier Playoffs will compete in the 2023 Cricket World Cup Qualifiers. The final decision for both teams to qualify for the World Cup.

Story

The 2023 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup will be the 13th edition of the competition. The tournament was first held in England in 1975.

This will be the fourth time India has hosted a tournament and her first solo event. They previously co-hosted tournaments in 1987, 1996, and 2011. England is the defending champions and entered the tournament in 2019 with the trophy at home after beating New Zealand in a thrilling final at Lords.

Australia is the most successful team in the history of the Cricket World Cup, having won the tournament five times. The West Indies and India have won here twice, with England, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka each winning once.
