Naseem Sha takes 5 wickets as Pakistan restrict New Zealand to 255/9 in first ODI

Karachi: Right-handed pacer Naseem Shah smashed New Zealand's slamming attack with his five-wicket move, driving Pakistan to tour in his first ODI on Monday to limit his side to 255/9. At the invitation of Pakistani captain Babar Azam, New Zealand scored first and in his allotted 50 overs he made 255/9. The touring side got off to a dismal start to the innings, losing the first batter Devon Conway in the first over to the Golden Ducks. After an early setback, young opener Finn Allen attempted to mount a counter-attack on the Pakistani pacesetter. Skipper Kane Williamson then started the team's recovery with Darryl Mitchell, adding his 32 runs for the third wicket before debutant Usama Mir put the former away with a spectacular delivery. After the dismissal of the captaincy, Mitchell formed a 76-run partnership with Tom Latham, frustrating the Pakistani bowlers when they fought over 12 overs. A fourth-wicket partnership began to threaten the hosts as both Mitchell and Latham settled down, but Nawaz delivered a perfect Jaffa to Castle Mitchell who was able to make 36 out of 55 deliveries. The hosts then had another success in the form of Latham's wicket, with Usamah celebrating his second ODI wicket. The wicket-keeper batsman remained his second-leading scorer for his side, with him striking 42 for 52 balls from the limit of three. After a slump, Glenn Phillips and Michael Bracewell stepped into the team, making a crucial 76-run partnership that put the team back in the game. The duo looked solid and seemed to accelerate late in the inning before Phillips mistimed a lofted shot and saw the end of the fight. We were able to make 37 out of 53 deliveries. After sacking Phillips, Naseem dropped Bracewell and debutant Henry Shipley in succession, dropping down the order. Bracewell had New Zealand's highest score, with 43 of 42 deliveries with 4 limits and 6 limits. Mitchell Santner and Tim Southey had struggled for 220/8 in 46 overs, so after adding an important 31 runs in the middle of the ninth wicket partnership, Naseem topped Santner on a later delivery and finished full. Completed his second 5-wicket move with a good ODI. Apart from Naseem's five-for-four, debutante Usama scored two wickets for just 42 runs, with Nawaz and Wasim Jr. each batting.

Young opener Finn Allen attempted to fight back, but he was dismissed for 29 runs by Mohammad Wasim Jr. Skipper Kane Williamson and Daryl Mitchell added 32 runs for the third wicket before Usama Mir got rid of Williamson.
