Punjab Kings trump Lucknow Super Giants in a thrilling encounter at TATA IPL 2023 Match 38

Lucknow Super Giants bounced back from their previous defeat against Gujarat Titans with a commanding win over Punjab Kings in Match 38 of TATA IPL 2023 at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali. Kyle Mayers set the tone for LSG with an aggressive knock of 54(24), followed by Marcus Stoinis smashing his highest IPL score of 72 off 40, supported by Ayush Badoni (43 off 24) and Nicholas Pooran (45 off 19) as LSG posted a daunting total of 257/5. Yash Thakur (4/37) and Naveen-ul-Haq (3/30) starred with the ball for LSG as they bowled out PBKS for 201, clinching a 56-run victory and moving up to second place in the table.

PBKS had a rocky start to their chase of 258, losing skipper Shikhar Dhawan (1) in the first over to Stoinis and then Impact Player Prabhsimran Singh (9 off 13) in the fourth over to Naveen-ul-Haq. Atharva Taide (66 off 36) counter-attacked with five fours and a six, including three fours in an over off the Avesh Khan over, while Sikandar Raza (36 off 22) helped rebuild the innings. Taide reached his maiden IPL fifty off just 26 balls, but he departed after top-edging his slog sweep and Bishnoi took a tricky catch off his own bowling.

Livingstone and Curran kept the scoreboard ticking, but the required run rate kept climbing up at a rapid rate, reaching beyond 20. Jitesh Sharma (24 off 10) provided some resistance, but it was an uphill battle for PBKS to chase down the second-highest total in the IPL. Yash Thakur and Naveen-ul-Haq impressed with their bowling figures of 4-0-37-4 and 4-0-30-3, respectively. Ultimately, PBKS fell short of the target and were bowled out for 201.
