India's Shubman Gill Fined 25% of Match Fee for Showing Dissent

Indian opener Shubman Gill has been fined 25% of his match fee for showing dissent over the third umpire's decision in the World Test Championship (WTC) final.

Gill was adjudged out by the third umpire after he edged a delivery from Pat Cummins to Cameron Green at third slip. However, Gill was seen shaking his head and raising his bat in disagreement with the decision.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has charged Gill with Level 1 of its Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to "showing dissent at an umpire's decision during an international match."

Gill admitted the charge and accepted the sanction, meaning he will not have to face a hearing.

The ICC's Code of Conduct states that players found guilty of Level 1 breaches can be fined up to 50% of their match fee.

Gill's fine comes after India lost the WTC final to New Zealand by eight wickets at the Rose Bowl in Southampton.

The Indian opener made 14 runs in the first innings and 4 runs in the second innings.

Gill is a promising young batsman who has a bright future in international cricket. However, he will need to learn to control his emotions and avoid showing dissent in future.
